

9th August 1952 : A Ministry of Agriculture Order creates a new school called l’Ecole d’application des Ingénieurs des Travaux Ruraux (School of Rural Engineering). It opens its doors to the first students at 19 Avenue du Maine in Paris. The courses last 12 months.
1957 : Foreign students intending to enter public service in their country of origin, enrol for the first time at the school. As its premises have become too cramped the school is transferred to the Parc de Tourvoie in Antony in the Paris suburbs.
26th April 1960 : Courses are extended to 2 years and the decision is made to transfer the school to Strasbourg.
1st October 1960 : The school moves into a building belonging to the city of Strasbourg at 1 Quai Koch and adopts a new name l’Ecole Nationale des Ingénieurs des Travaux Ruraux et des Techniques Sanitaires – ENITRTS (National School of Rural Engineering and Sanitary Techniques).
15th May 1968 : Creation of the ENITRTS alumni association .

1970 : The school opens a special department for further education.
1971-1974 : In agreement with the city of Strasbourg, the premises are reorganised and two new floors are added to the part of the building overlooking Quai Koch.
A few months later, the city of Strasbourg leaves the part of the building that looks onto Avenue de la Marseillaise and rue Wencker. The school obtains an extension of the lease covering the entire building.
1982 : Creation of the Certificat d’Etudes Supérieures (Certificate of Higher Education) entitled “Equipements d’Hygiène Publique” (EHP) which in 1993 becomes “Eau Potable et Assainissement” (Drinking Water and Sanitation).
23rd November 1992 : A ministerial order changes the name of the school to National School for Water and Environmental Engineering of Strasbourg (Ecole Nationale du Génie de l’Eau et de l’Environnement de Strasbourg - ENGEES).
1995 : Creation of the Mastère spécialisé and Certificate of Higher Education courses in “Treatment of Waste” and two Master degrees (DEA) : “Spatial and Environmental Systems” and “Protection, Development and Exploitation of Ground and Underground”.
September 1995 : The ENGEES is connected to the Internet via the Renater and Osiris servers.
July 1997 – September 1998 : Extension of the premises i.e. addition of two floors to the building overlooking Avenue de la Marseillaise and rue Wencker creating a further 1500m² surface area: photos
4th December 1998 : Inauguration of the new premises.
October 1999 : Creation of the Mastère Spécialisé course “Management and Engineering of Water and Sanitation services”.


September 2000 : Creation of the Bachelors degree “Water and Environment”.
7th November 2000 : Opening of the new resources centre and library on the second floor.
2nd February 2001 : Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the ENGEES in Strasbourg.
